Jaguar Land Rover Startup Incubator

UX / HMI Product Lead

One of my favorite projects to manage at Jaguar Land Rover blended a cross functional team with external partners managing city/state transportation data, startups, and established companies to revolutionize the way a vehicle can assist a driver in navigating a familiar city.

It started with a startup in our incubator program, HAAS Alert, they were building a database that could alert drivers directionally when an emergency vehicle was approaching.

My team's first task was to design, build, and user test an application that could run on shipped production hardware.

But we felt that this could grow, so I took it upon myself to reach out to other data providers.

Within a month we worked with local and state transportation officials to streamline their data for external access. Now the vehicle could alert a driver if a bridge was raising/lowering downtown, if a streetcar was approaching in the lane, or, my personal favorite, it could dynamically display upcoming mobile traffic signs set up by the Oregon Department of Transportation.

Within a few sprints we not only had a prototype working on a production vehicle but we also managed to reinvigorate the organization to thinking differently about how quickly a concept could grow with the right collaborative external partnerships in place.
